Transitioning into the Crib

Lily has pretty much out grown her basinette. She is starting to move around a lot while she sleeps and kicks the end of the basinette and wakes herself up. I realized over the weekend that I need to put her into her crib at night. This idea saddens me A LOT! I really like having her in my room and I kept thinking about how lonely she will be in her room by herself. I had to have a discussion with myself telling myself that kids like having their own room and that most kids do have their own. I myself had my own room. She won't want to share a room with her mommy and daddy forever. So last night I tried to put her down in her crib. Keyword is tried. It didn't last. I nursed her and rocked her and when she fell asleep I gently put her in her crib. I put blankets on her and before I was even done getting her all tucked in she woke up. She wasn't upset though so I walked out of her room through a door and into my room. I had the monitor on because I wasn't sure how well I would hear her since she was in the very next room. I was paranoid I wouldn't hear her for sure. So as I lay in bed listening I hear her start to laugh. She was laughing by her her dark room. I thought, "Ok, well atleast she is not crying." Well, a few minutes of laughing turned into crying and I went in. I picked her up and rocked her back to sleep and put her back down in her crib, she stayed asleep. I went back to my room and laid back down. Not too much longer but, long enough for me to fall asleep she started crying. I went in picked her up and rocked her back to sleep. As soon as I laid her back down she started crying. I tried this a couple more times and she just wouldn't stay asleep in her crib. So I decided I was not going to spend my whole night going back and forth from the rocking chair to her crib. So she came to bed with us. I will try this again in a couple of days when I don't have to work in the morning. I really should have started this transition on Friday night not Sunday night.

She is growing so big and changing so much. She is starting to sit up on her own already. She sits for just a couple of seconds and then falls over. She is making progress and I am so proud of my little girl. She isn't even 5 months yet! Oh and when she is in her exersaucer and I reach my arms out to pick her up she reaches up for me with both her arms. It is the cutest thing and just feels so good!

Don't do it! Let her cry. Heart-wrenching as it may be, give her five or ten minutes to cry so she can learn to put herself back to sleep. If she's still fussing, pick her up.
That's my two cents.

And I'm so excited you're subbing! Hope that's going well!
